Myths
Is it true or false?
Myth: The phantom who lives in the Radley house- Inside the Radley house lived a melavolent phantom. People said he existed, however many had never seen him. People said he went out at night when the moon was down, and peeped in windows. When people's azaleas froze in a cold snap, it was because he had breathed on them. Any stealthy small crimes commited in Maycomb were his work. Is this true or is this false? No specific perosn has been identified as the originator of this myth, but it has gotten around town. Many of our kids, neighbors, friends and family are talking about this. However, this myth is most likely false because part of it says that the crimes commited in this town were by Arthur Radley- the supposably ghost of the Radley's house- but they were really the work of "Crazy Addie". Also, one witness of Arthur going around and peeking in people's window's at night is known as a big tale teller (this person's name will not be stated for their own personal reasons), so how can we believe them?! The only way to find out if there really is a ghost is by clearly seeing it but we greatly suggest that NOBODY bothers, or messes with, the ol' Radley's house.

True or False?
Myth: The trouble maker of the Radley's and of Maycomb County- According to everybody in the neigborhood, the youngest son of the Radley's was associated with what was known as a "gang". It was actually more like a tribe, but it was the closest thing to a gang that Maycomb County has been known to hold. The tribe that is known to have supposably acquainted with young Radley was called "the Cunningham's" from Old Sarum. They didn't do much but they did enough unappropriate activities to get the town talking about them. They were warned multiple times by the pulpits. Legend is that they use to hang around barbershops, ride the bus to Abbottsville on Sunday's, attended dances and the county's gambling hell and even drank whiskey! Obviously knowing that the Radley's were quite unfriendly, nobody wanted to tell his father that he was in the wrong crowd. Is this true or is it false? Not many people are eye witness' of this "gang", this is most likely another myth.

The quesiton is, how did Miss Stephanie see all this happen if their windows are always closed?

True or False?
Myth: Arthur Radley is chained to his bed!?- Mr. Radley keeps Boo (Arthur Radley) chained to his bed in order to keep him from publicity. The source of this myth is Jem Finch. However, his father disagrees and said "no, it wasn't that sort of thing, that there's other ways of making people into ghosts." How do we know that Arthur is a ghost? He never comes out anyway, but if something disturbing like this really is going on inside the Radley house, then I suggest someone do something fast!

True or False?
Myth: Hot Steams-Hot steam: A hot steam is supposably a ghost, who hangs out on lonesome roads late at night and is someone who can't go to heaven. Their activites are reportedly to suck people's breath from them when they walk through them and then you become one. After you "become a hot steam" then at night you take people's breath from them too. Their name "hot steams" come from the old saying that they're a hot place on a road. However, there is a way to save your breath from these mythical ghosts. If you absolutely have to walk through them, then you say 'Angel-bright, life-in-death; get off the road, don't suck my breath.' Who knows if this is true or false unless someone wants to take the chance of walking through a hot steam.

True or False?
Myth: The Carnivorous Arthur Radley- People around the neighborhood are saying that the hidden Arthur Radley has been locked up for a hundred years and eats cats and small rodents! How can someone live off of this? Obviously this isn't true, so don't fret next time someone tells you this. There's no way that someone can be cooped up in a small house and still be living for a hundred years. Also, Arthur is not even close to being a hundred. So this has to be false.

True or False?
Myth: The poisining Radley's- Have you noticed how everyone says that everything that belongs to the Radley's is poisinous!? Even the school kids don't eat the fallen fruit that comes from the Radley's tree because they are too scared that they'd die. Something shocking has happened in Maycomb. The two finches, Jem and Scout, ate a whole pack of gum found in the Radley's yard and nothing happened to them. I guess not everything that belongs the them is harmful. Maybe this will encourage kids to eat the fruit that is just as healthy for them as the fruit in their house.

True or False?
Myth: Seasons change when children have bad behavior- This year for us Maycomb County citizens, the autumn has turned to winter (the autumn season is really cold). Mr. Avery says that on the Rosetta Stone, it says that the seasons change when children disobey their parents, smoke cigarettes and fight with eachother. Mr. Avery blames the children of Maycomb County for contributing to the weather changes. Is it really true that the seasons change when children are misbehaved? Well, this doesn't seem like a very logical explaination because kids do not have control over the seasons and their patterns.

True or False?
Myth: There's a man who gives away babies- So our returner Dill told Scout story that got around to many other people. The story is about a man who sails around a foggy island and gives out babies. He has a boat with a whole bunch of babies and gives them away to people who wants them. However, they aren't alive. He breathes 'life' into them and then hands them out. This is most definitely false because we know that babies come from people and cannot magically have life breathed into them.

True or False?
Myth: Ms. Dubose's CSA Pistol- It is rumored by the young children of Maycomb that Ms. Dubose kept a CSA pistol tucked away among her numerous shawls and wraps. The theory may have developed from Ms. Dubose's attitude towards children. She is not your motherly kind. Is it true or false? Is there really a CSA pistol under her bed? Would she attack a child?
